Chromium (and Google Chrome)

Chromium is an open source web browser that uses the Webkit rendering engine. It is full-featured, and primarily intended for general-purpose web browsing on platforms that are not resource-constrained. Chromium is notable for its fast implementation of JavaScript, and for the fact that it is the underlying browser on which Google Chrome is based.

Aside from branding, Google Chrome differs from Chromium in that it has a number of non-free additions. These include an integrated Flash player and PDF viewer, an automated update system, a number of extra codecs, and a telemetry system that sends usage information to Google. The two browsers are developed in parallel using the same version numbering scheme, and for the purposes of this website references to Chromium should be taken to include Chrome.
